A little clarity about your data.
Daylight privacy notice · Updated October 23, 2026
Daylight provides weather forecasts and optional personal weather assistance. You can check the weather without creating an account or connecting a calendar.
Weather and location
Searching for a place sends the search text to Open-Meteo. Forecast, UV, and air-quality requests send the selected location's coordinates to Open-Meteo. If you choose your current location, iOS asks for permission first. Saved places and cached forecasts are stored on your device. The weather map uses the selected area with our hosted map, Open-Meteo, OpenFreeMap, and OpenStreetMap data. Official weather-alert checks send the selected coordinates through the Daylight service to the U.S. National Weather Service. These providers receive ordinary network information, such as your IP address, when contacted.
Optional notifications and Ask Daylight
Enabling notifications shares an installation identifier, push token, selected location, time zone, delivery time, and notification preferences with the Daylight service hosted on Cloudflare. Expo and Apple deliver push notifications.
If you enable Ask Daylight, the service also stores your messages, replies, personal preferences, and any calendar information you choose to share. Calendar access is optional and limited to selected calendars: upcoming event titles, times, and locations are shared, not event descriptions, attendees, or attachments. Location is refreshed when the app is opened; Daylight does not continuously track your movements.
To answer questions and prepare personal updates, relevant messages and context are processed by OpenAI. Daylight requests that responses are not stored through the OpenAI Responses API; this is not a promise of zero retention by OpenAI. Weather queries use Open-Meteo. Optional driving checks use OSRM/OpenStreetMap and Colorado road-report sources. Do not include information in chat that you do not want these services to process.
Photos you choose
The optional camera and photo-library features combine your chosen photo with a weather overlay on your device. Daylight does not upload these photos to its servers or send them to OpenAI. Photos leave your device only when you choose a destination in the sharing controls. You can use forecasts without camera or photo access.
Optional weather postcards
Sharing a postcard creates a public, unlisted link that expires after seven days. The page and downloadable image contain the weather snapshot, caption, and city you selected. Sharing a forecast card excludes the conversation. Choosing Share answer publishes that answer; the optional editor lets you explicitly include a question or answer. Other messages, calendar records, precise coordinates, and your installation secret are not included. Anyone with the link can view or save it. Remove active links in Settings → Shared postcards; copies already saved or reposted by recipients cannot be recalled.
Visitors can ask a weather question on the shared page without an account. Their selected city and question are processed by the weather providers and OpenAI described above, without access to the sender’s personal context. Daylight does not save these preview conversations. Daily limits use a hash of the visitor’s IP address and date; raw addresses are not stored in the rate-limit record. Ordinary hosting and provider processing may still apply.
Storage and your controls
Daylight retains personal context and chat history until you delete it or history limits apply. History is limited to the latest 15 conversations and up to 80 messages per conversation, with size limits. In Settings, use the option to delete companion data to erase chats and shared personal context and turn Ask Daylight off. You can disconnect calendars and revoke iOS permissions at any time.
Turning off all notifications removes the service's notification delivery configuration and push token. A hashed installation management secret and limited operational state may remain to protect the installation identifier from takeover. Deleting the app alone does not send a server-side deletion request; use the in-app deletion controls first. Locally cached data can be removed by deleting the app.
Service providers and testing
Cloudflare hosts the service; Expo and Apple support app distribution and notifications; OpenAI processes optional AI requests; and the weather, map, and routing providers described above supply their respective features. These providers apply their own privacy and retention practices. Apple TestFlight may collect crash reports, testing information, and feedback you choose to submit. Daylight has no advertising or advertising-tracking integration and does not sell your personal information.
